Do you think you can learn martial arts by watching martial arts movies?

I don't mean like a blackbelt or anything like that, I'm just talking about enough to protect yourself if something were to happen?

Do you think you can learn martial arts by watching martial arts movies?
No

to use a technique you have practice it to become comfortable with it. If your not comfortable with it you will never use it. By practicing you must pratice the technique a hundred times so when you do the technique it becomes a habit and you do it without thinking about it.
Reply:No, i do not. Just like you couldn't learn ballet by watching it on tv, or learn to play hockey by watching it on tv. You have to practice. hard to learn anything by watching. get some videotapes with real martial arts teacheres that will work better. there are a lot out there.
Reply:Nope, you have to do the work to get the paycheck.
Reply:No, you really can't.
Reply:can you learn porno arts by watching porno movies ? if you can answer this, grasshopper, it will be time for you to leave.
Reply:No, because the moves exhibited in those movies are often hyped up to make them look more than what they really are. A movie is no substitute for going to a legitimate martial arts school and learning correct form and execution of movements.
Reply:it depends how realistic the movie is. (no super spins or jumps) if yes you can learn basics and some unique moves. enough to barly protect your self not eonughf to master

sorry for my spelling
Reply:NO WAY!!!!!!!!! do be able just to protect yourself u need training and dedication to the art that u will follow
Reply:hell no! some people would be in ma schools for a year and still dont know squat. tv is for entertainment. besides their moves aint realistic, they make it look good for the screen.
Reply:hell yes lol..

i learned my dragon kick from it but i dont think u can actually master anything
Reply:No. Martial arts is much more than physical movement and sometimes you're not really seeing what you think you are seeing.
Reply:no, those moves you see were designed for the movies. the way they shift their bodies, their timing and angle, how they would execute the technique , would be different from real life. those moves were designed to look good in front of a camera, not to be effective.

you can not prepare yourself mentally for an aggressive situation just by watching a movie either. your body may not respond accordingly when you have a big adrenaline surge or if your mind goes blank due to fear.
Reply:THE MAJORITY OF THE ANSWERS ARE NO AND THAT IS MINE ALSO
