Martial Arts Movie Title help?

i wanna find out the name of a kinda old( around 2006 or 2007 ) martial arts movie....but, I don't remember anything about it except one of the scenes from the preview. The main character was running and being chased by a guy on a 4 wheeler and the main character does a backflip on a big glass window and the dude on the 4-wheeler goes through the glass.

Martial Arts Movie Title help?
I know it's a Tony Jaa movie. It's either The Protector Or Ong-Bak

Martial arts movie question?

Years ago (80's or 70's not sure which) the guy who played on Kill Bill (as the main bad guy) played a martial arts guy. He lead some sort of team to a academy of sorts. There he had to battle them in a arena of sorts.

Does anyone recognize this movie? I think it was "Kill kill and kill again" but not sure.

Do you know if its on dvd yet?

Martial arts movie question?
His name is David Carradine

Back in the day, he had a long-time runing tv series called "Kung Fu"

Could it be that?

in the ads on tv for the movie fearless with jet li, they announce "in his final martial arts epic performance". Is he quitting making martial arts movies or do they mean in this series of films pertaining to the character himself.

What do they mean by jet li's final martial arts performance on the ads for his new movie fearless. is he quit
JET LI STATED HE WON'T BE DOING ANYMORE MARTIAL ARTS MOVIES

They want to be recognized as serious actors.
Reply:I hope that he's not quitting.

What is the 1976 Martial Arts movie title?

Here's the story as I remember it: An overly-trustworthy goodie-two-shoes hero (in his 20s) will not sell his land to a hostile group. He is invited to have dinner with them as a peace offering. But his friends say don't trust them. As he is shoveling rice into his mouth with bowl and chop sticks he is stabbed underneath the table and is ambushed but continues fighting until the end. Cut to his funeral with his photo above his casket. His friend tries to avenge the hero's death and is beaten up badly, but is left alive. A Master trains the friend to do exercises by jabbing his fingers into pots of hot sand. He tries again to avenge the hero's death and is successful. During the final chaotic fight scene we see flash backs of him training and of him and the hero smiling.

There is a possibility that this is actually two unrelated movies. But I remember seeing it as a kid, English dubbed. as a double feature with "The Omen" and it was the best Martial Arts movie I had ever seen.

What is the 1976 Martial Arts movie title?
Pretty Much Every Martial Arts Movie back then.
Reply:sounds like "5 fingers of death" but some details i thought were different.

What was the best martial arts movie ever made? Why?

I'm a huge fan of the genre and am more and more impressed by the quality of choreography (Crouching Tiger) and intensity (Unleashed) that martial arts movies have brought to the big screen. Whether it is the classics of yesterday, Chinese or Japanese, Bruce Lee or Jackie Chan, what movie stands out as the best for you and why?

(Sci-Fi and action flicks with strong emphasis on martial arts are welcome as well [The Matrix Series, etc.].)

What was the best martial arts movie ever made? Why?
Bruce Lee's "Enter the Dragon" because it kickstarted the growth of the martial arts worldwide, bring them out of obscurity and into the mainstream. Without this movie and the indominatable Bruce Lee, we would probably not have movies like "Crouching Tiger", "Unleashed", and "The Matrix" series.
Reply:All those movies listed by these people..

even bruce lee's "enter the dragon" cannot compare the best martial arts movie "Flash Point" by Donnie Yen..he is the best...Best martial arts movie i even watched..trust me Report It

Reply:Big Trouble in Little China- Kurt Russell is badass....
Reply:Dude, how could you ask this. The answer is Enter the Dragon. John Saxon ... need I say more?
Reply:drunken master or a bruce lee film, (intense, raw)
Reply:Beverly hill ninja
Reply:Circle of iron funny and makes you think but as Bruce Lee said the best type of karate is no karate but to conform to what works.
Reply:You have a good taste in movies, pal, I love Bruce Lee movies, Lee is the first of that mania. My favorite is Enter the Dragon. The best movie ever??? It's difficult for me to say, but I suggest you must see EQUILIBRIUM and THE RETURNER. EQUILIBRIUM is a movie that a man who knows martial arts, but with guns. It's good movie. THE RETURNER is a japanese movie, not a cartoon, of a woman from the future who help a man to save the world of an aliens. Pal, you'll remember me when you see those two movies, they are great!!! See ya!!
Reply:No Retreat No Surrender

the only movie i know off where Van Damme gets beat
Reply:Karate Kid. I am sure I will get made fun of as everyone is going to pick these huge Hollywood flicks with "awesome martial artists" but I love this flick.

I like it because some little nobody ( Daniel-sun) learns a traditional Okinawan karate ( gojo ryu is implied as Miyagi is the founder of this style) and turns around to beat a bunch of rich McDojo punks. Plus Mr. Miyagi is so chill, I love his one liners.

" Mr Miyagi, can you chop a tree in half?"

" Don't know. Never been attacked by tree."

It is classic.

Plus the cheesy 80's soundtrack rocks.
Reply:BILLY JACK starring Tom Laughlin---why? Just watch the hapkido karate sequence---that's why!
Reply:Bruce Lee's Enter The Dragon .
Reply:Enter the dragon-it just is.
Reply:hmmm....

Enter The Dragon - definitely the best.

The One - cool.

The Best of the Best - martial arts with human drama.

Kickboxer - although very theatrical

The Last Samurai - Yah I know Tom Cruise was there but I love kendo and sword martial arts.

Martial arts combined with a good story. Now that's perfect.

Peace.
Reply:Mostly everybody has great answers and have taken your question seriously! I really agree with most of the responses, especially with the Bruce Lee movies. I will say, though, a favorite of mine since I saw it is "Fist of Legend".

Essentially a remake of Bruce Lee's "Chinese Connection" (of "Fists of Fury" for the connoisseur), it stars Jet Li, shows Chinese martial arts, Japanese martial arts, and even some western boxing and improvised fighting. Cheesy at times, but fantastic choreography.

"Fist of Legend"!!!

...I'm sure I'll think of more later!

What are the top three martial arts movies of ALL time?

Firstly, I'd Like To Point Out That 28 Days Later And Howls Moving Castle Are Not Martial Arts Movies.

The Best Martial Arts Movies Of All Time Are:

1. The Chinese Connection, Which Is Bruce Lee's Best Film.

2. Enter the Dragon, Which Is Bruce Lee's Most Popular Film.

3. Drunken Master, Which Is Jackie Chan's Best Film.

More Recent Martial Arts Movies Which Are Also Superb Are Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon, Hero, House Of Flying Daggers And Ong Bak.

What are the top three martial arts movies of ALL time?
28 days later

House of Flying Daggers

Howl's Moving Castle
Reply:Enter the Dragon,Kung Fu Hustle, and Legend of the Drunken Master.
Reply:- Game of Death, Bruce Lee (his very last movie)

- Police Story, Jackie Chan (the scene where he jumped from the shopping centre's fourth level and slid down on a chain of light-bulbs to ground floor was AWESOME)

- Fist of Fury - Bruce Lee.

These are the contemporary HK martial arts films - no silly computer graphics or other touch ups, but genuine martial arts acts based on the actor's fighting skills and strength only.
Reply:Enter the Dragon

Street Fighter

The 36th Chamber of the Shaolin

I agree with most of the list you added. It's unfortunate though that many of the great martial arts movies arent seen by people other than those in the country the movie was released. Most people in America havent seen many (if any) of the true kung fu films. Only a few of the movies you listed would be on "top 50" list in places like China and Japan. The exceptions being Enter the Dragon (not necessarily because it is a great film but because of what it did for the martial arts movie industry), Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon (Chow Yun Fat is a GOD in China- even though he has NO martial arts training... I love him) and Ong Bak (because of its impact on martial arts flicks)..

Do you think you can learn martial arts by watching martial arts movies?

I don't mean like a blackbelt or anything like that, I'm just talking about enough to protect yourself if something were to happen?

Do you think you can learn martial arts by watching martial arts movies?
No

to use a technique you have practice it to become comfortable with it. If your not comfortable with it you will never use it. By practicing you must pratice the technique a hundred times so when you do the technique it becomes a habit and you do it without thinking about it.
Reply:No, i do not. Just like you couldn't learn ballet by watching it on tv, or learn to play hockey by watching it on tv. You have to practice. hard to learn anything by watching. get some videotapes with real martial arts teacheres that will work better. there are a lot out there.
Reply:Nope, you have to do the work to get the paycheck.
Reply:No, you really can't.
Reply:can you learn porno arts by watching porno movies ? if you can answer this, grasshopper, it will be time for you to leave.
Reply:No, because the moves exhibited in those movies are often hyped up to make them look more than what they really are. A movie is no substitute for going to a legitimate martial arts school and learning correct form and execution of movements.
Reply:it depends how realistic the movie is. (no super spins or jumps) if yes you can learn basics and some unique moves. enough to barly protect your self not eonughf to master

sorry for my spelling
Reply:NO WAY!!!!!!!!! do be able just to protect yourself u need training and dedication to the art that u will follow
Reply:hell no! some people would be in ma schools for a year and still dont know squat. tv is for entertainment. besides their moves aint realistic, they make it look good for the screen.
Reply:hell yes lol..

i learned my dragon kick from it but i dont think u can actually master anything
Reply:No. Martial arts is much more than physical movement and sometimes you're not really seeing what you think you are seeing.
Reply:no, those moves you see were designed for the movies. the way they shift their bodies, their timing and angle, how they would execute the technique , would be different from real life. those moves were designed to look good in front of a camera, not to be effective.

you can not prepare yourself mentally for an aggressive situation just by watching a movie either. your body may not respond accordingly when you have a big adrenaline surge or if your mind goes blank due to fear.
Reply:THE MAJORITY OF THE ANSWERS ARE NO AND THAT IS MINE ALSO

Are there any good martial arts movies or documentaries on today?

i have sky

Are there any good martial arts movies or documentaries on today?
if you love martial arts, you must get "Hero" and "Hiding Tiger Crouching Dragon" (I think I got that title correct)
Reply:Unfortunately, there aren't many good documentaries any more, and the ones that come out do so very infrequently.

Ong Bak, Fearless...for movies
Reply:There good stories, good fight scenes, fantasy fight scenes and such. For a good story and fantasy fights, Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, along with the House of Flying Daggers, and Hero are all good flicks. I really don't like the whole movie of Flying daggers, but the fighting is pretty so to speak. The story is Ok. The Perfect Weapon show cased a version of American Kenpo Karate. Enter the Dragon was a good Bruce Lee film. Jackie Chan has some beautiful choreography in all his movies.

Ong Bak (spelling, sorry) is suppose to highlight Muay Thai and I've heard good reviews.

Some folks liked "The One" with Jet Li. It highlighted a linear style vs. a circular style. Personally I liked that aspect of it. Hmm, none of these are new. Sorry about that.

As far as documentaries go, there is Fight Science from National Geographic and Discovery did something a while ago but I really didn't think it was very good. There are some older ones that are OK. Check out your library!

Why ? Martial arts movies depict swordsmen flying through the air and walking on water?

is it artistic license or what?

Why ? Martial arts movies depict swordsmen flying through the air and walking on water?
This is a stylistic thing in the Asian culture. It doesn't have anything to do with them believing that people can actually fly, or anything like that.

It's kind of like how we have Xmen, Spiderman, Superman, etc. As an asian youth you are brought up with the same sort of comic book type of things and movies, but instead their powers are focused on Martial Arts.

Why? Well because Asia is considered the birth place for Martial Arts, so it is part of their heritage.

It is indeed artistic license, it is also part of a new breed of cinema by them. They have innovated a certain style with the wirework and everything and made it cater and fit specifically to them.

It has always been a part of Asian movies, both Chinese and Japanese. It is part of what draws the audience. Things like Zatoichi, and other powerful warriors are there Superman/Spiderman.

Look at Anime, Japanese Comics, and pretty much all Asian movies, that is part of the theme of their culture. Instead of getting their powers from a radioactive spiderbite, they have used years of skill honed into martial artists. It is simple a reflection of their heritage.

I don't think you will find any serious martial artist out there who will tell you he can walk on water, or fly through the air. But there are some who can do truly amazing feats because of years of training.

Those movies are an exageration of that, that are part of a stylized story and add a visual magnificense to them. Watch those movies and see the use of colors, and cinematography. It truly is really unique, and that is part of the reason why it is so popular, it is a super hero movie essentially with a distinctly different style of cinema and storytelling.

Only children think that ninjas are real, and that people can fly and walk on water with martial arts.
Reply:It's big in Japan, its a sign to be in tuned with nature to be able to manipulate it like that.
Reply:its to show the training and mystery of ninjas in a way that it will intrigue the public and earn big bucks
Reply:Why do people believe that just because someone is very old and asian they can break **** and attack people with CHI power, never actually touching them.
Reply:It's entertainment. And it's just a story. (I assume you're talking about Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon, for one.) They don't make any claim that people *can* actually do that, but it's cool to watch.
Reply:Because it makes the movie better. No one can really do it (unless your God or something).
Reply:Artistic license-just like James Bond has a car that turns into a submarine.
Reply:It's old asian legend that there are sacred chi training books which can teach a trainee the ultimate chi power. powers to hurt their enemies without touch, powers to use chi to make their body lighter like they can fly or walk on snow, powers to channel these chi into weapons that can break anything. Most asians understood these and heard of these stories. There are certain martial arts individuals that can leap to the rooftop of the house with just one bounce, fight ferocious animals like tigers and exert tremedous forces.
Reply:Well, it is artistic license expanding on a general feeling of the general population. Someone who trains constantly can do things that would seem humanly impossible to the regular population. Add to that the old rumor mill (think the telephone game from when you were young) and the next thing you know, someone went from being a really awesome jumper or climber, to becoming someone who must have flown up there.

A really good example would be to find a good climbing gym near you. Go in and find a really good climber and someone who has never climbed before. Look at what they are able to do and pull on, and you'll get the idea of "superhuman" feats.

That is my understanding of why somethings were originally protrayed the way they were in martial arts movies. Of course, once Hollywood gets hold of something, they bastardize it without any understanding.
Reply:This may be a incorrect answer, however I seriously wonder if poor qualify of instructors are responsible for this.

I can easily see how this happen. I can see one gym teach style Y which work against average people. Other gym across town open and teach style Z which work against average people and tend to beat style Y due to better training and techique.

So style Y gym need to come up with a way to attract people and scare away students from style Z. So they start to make small claim such as "if you learn this style, one day you will be able to lift 500 lbs"

Once style Z start to lose student and found out about the claim. They come up with new claim such as "we now teach anicet secret, if you stay with us for 10 years, we'll teach you how to run faster than a cheetah plus you will live past 100"

Then style Y lost students. So they need something new. They start to tell everyone "hey we now discover anicent scroll that teach you how to fly and walk on water"

Then new gym that teach style X open in center of city. No one take it seriously becuase they have nothing to back them up, no ridicous claim, or anything. So the style X have little choice beside to claim that they now teach how to make your cock hard as steel, throw ball of chi, your body so hard that a sword cannot slice through it, and the list goes on.

Once gym Y and Z find out, they make even more wild claim.

I can easily see how this happened and find its way into Hollywood.

Anyway Gerlooser, let throw you into tigers pen and you can try fight them off with your toe nails, finger nails, and teeth. My moneys is on the tiger.
Reply:Movies depict whatever will sell to the public. I have yet to meet someone who can defy nature by either activity.
Reply:If this relates to the Chinese films I can answer it, but anything else and I'm not familiar enough with it.

Back during the Confucius era in china (Confucius was a prophet in china and led a time of enlightenment much like Buddha, but different) it was considered to be barbaric to practice martial arts. many laws were passed to ban the studies in many providence's throughout china. The theater was the only place martial artist could hide and disguise there studies as acrobats and performers. so many martial artist today (epically those in movies) give thanks to the theater by preforming the way that they did back in the day with heavy acrobatics and acts of unbelievable stunts (ie. swimming through trees and dancing on the water).
Reply:most of the movies that you see about the fighters flying through the air is based on the legends surrounding thes characters, just as we have Star Wars which is a modern mythology.

although the character or person may've actually existed, they may have been excellent fighters, but not superhuman and actually had the abilities to perform these moves, because it's almost impossible to do such things today.

So yes, I would prob'ly say it's more of artistic licenseing, or for dramatic addition to the story. so that's why you see these things, it's mostly things that were added by the storyteller that heard the story passed down from one generation to the next adding their own flair to the story.
Reply:Because it's a movie, why does the good guy in american movies always hit what they are aiming at and never run out of bullets? Why can James Bond jump a car from one building to another without ever being injured or damaging the car?

People relate martial artists as being able to do amazing physical feats so what better way to do this than to have them flying through the air or walking on water. It's a way to draw more of a crowd nothing more.

flowers get well

Nice and cool stunts and fighting scenes.

Reply:I still prefer the old Shaw Brothers kung fu movies where the guys are doing the Crouching Kitten Hidden Gecko by leaping over tall buildings in a single bound, and beating a thousand guys.... by themself.... with one arm tied behind their backs, and bleeding buckets of blood all over everyone.

That's great stuff.

What do you call the high collar suit that oriental people wear in martial arts/gangsta movies?

What do you call the high collar suit that oriental people wear in martial arts/gangsta movies? The suit that has the collar go halfway up the neck and you can't see the shirt or tie.

The collar goes up the neck and it tends to be black. I would go to china town to get one, but would prefer finding one on ebay.

I want to get one but don't even know what they are called. Anyone know what they are called and where I can buy one?

What do you call the high collar suit that oriental people wear in martial arts/gangsta movies?
Is this what you are talking about?

It is called a Mandarin collar...

Reply:Enter the Dragon
Reply:Enter The Dragon of course. Others are Snake In The Eagles Shadow, Drunken Master, Prodigal Son, Knockabout, and The Young Master.
Reply:Enter the Dragon is right up there, um, a lot of Jackie Chan's movies are great, Fearless Hyiena, Drunken Master, some of the more recent ones, House of Flying Daggers, Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon, Iron Monkey, Fearless... hope this helps.
Reply:Baramui Fighter (2004) aka Fighter in the Wind

Probably the best Martial arts movie since Enter the Dragon. Follow the path of Choi Baedal as he emigrates from Korea to Japan to learn to be a fighter pilot...and what happens next is the stuff of legend. The fight scenes are the most realistic ever done...no wires...no trampolines...just the awesome and awe-inspiring story of a man...who would become one of the 'Iron Men of Japan"....one of the most loved and respected martial artists of all time.

S.P.L.: Sha po lang (2005)

Set to retire due to a terminal brain tumor, detective Simon Yam knows there's only one way for him and his loyal squad to deal with triad kingpin Sammo Hung and his troops: force on force. But no matter how hard they press - and they press HARD - Sammo presses back harder, and usually after he walks free when it becomes apparent Simon and his boys have violated every police procedure and human right imaginable in an effort to secure an apprehension.

Donnie Yen stars as the new detective assigned to this team and what happens when he uncovers the true nature of the animosity between his squad and the crime boss. Brutal...brutal...brutal.... no holds barred martial arts action at its best Wait until you meet the assassin....whew!!

For over the top martial arts action also check out Donnie Yen in

Chat gim (2005) aka Seven Swords and

Lung fu moon (2006) aka Dragon Tiger Gate...

also good crazy kinetic Kung Fu mayhem in

Death Trance (2005)

Versus (2000/II)

and the ultimate Ninja vs Ninja to the death action movie of all time...Shinobi:Heart under Blade (2005)

Shinobi centers on the drama resulting from the war between two ninja clans in the early part of the Tokugawa era. Totally unreal nonstop martial arts action surrounds a love story doomed from the very start. Excellent

Also try

Muyeong geom (2005) aka Shadowless Sword...for an awesome story...equal to Fighter in the Wind. Not as much fighting as in Fighter...but a modern day classic all the same

=====================

Ong-bak (2003) and

Tom yum goong (2005) aka The Protector...these last two must be seen to be believed...Tony Jaa's deadly Muay Thai skills are a must see.
Reply:Have you seen "Dragon: The Bruce Lee Story" (1993)? The story of his life.

Or for a little comic relief how about: "They Call Me Bruce?" (1982).

Do you love martial arts movies?

I love Jet Li. I just saw Fearless it was awesome. He also has Once upon a time in China three episodes, they were also awesome. I love to listen to this movies in their original languagee

Mandarin or Cantonese, very cool

Do you love martial arts movies?
Hell yeah!!! I love the OUTC trilogy. I just watched Hero for about the 10th time the other day. Jet Li is the ****. I also agree with you about original language. Dubbing RUINS foreign movies, plain and simple.

Trivia=in Matrix 2 and 3, the role of Seraph(guardian of the Oracle) was originally written for Jet Li. He turned it down.
Reply:the Matrix movies have kung fu, tai chi bo, and other martial arts in them, so 1,2, and 3 are my favorite martial arts movies. i never seen fearless, but i may soon.
Reply:Yes, Fearless was very good. There is also Hero and Fist of Legend, also with Jet Li, and House of Flying Daggers and Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon. All excellent.
Reply:god no. they make these stupid sound effects when they are supposed to be hitting each other. so lame..............

Can humans fly as they do in martial arts movies?

In crouching tiger they explored the concept of flying using skills taught in martial arts. Most legends are based on facts, therefore was this something that did actually occur but died out somehow. Did they actually used to see martial arts experts "flying" and passed on the stories but had no cameras to catch the events so as the masters died out all that was left were the stories?

Internal martial arts focuses attention on chi which is the electrical currents generated by the body that move muscles and transfer thoughts. They exercise the organs that create this electricity and so can produce great power (see segals shadow man). so could it be that they could generate enough power to propel themselves into the air like this and even levetate using this energy. Most folk lore is based on some sort of fact. Or as Aqua would say "we learned to run at speed of light, and to fall down from any height". Dont believe me? Willing to put your money where your mouth is?

Can humans fly as they do in martial arts movies?
I can sell you some magic ninja flying dust...

seriously..."most legends are based on facts"?!?

p.s. WHOAAAAA! wait a minute...you actually want to defend this? roflmao...yes, midgets do exist...that proves NOTHING related to your point........and you use A FRIGGIN STEVEN SEGAL MOVIE AS EVIDENCE THAT HUMANS CAN FLY....

wow....absof%ckinglutely wow. I suppose that next you will tell us that Jesus was born of a virgin and rose from the dead...(it's only slightly less plausible).
Reply:of course not,

Reply:Try it out, jump off your roof using your technique. Don't forget to film it.
Reply:Can Toasters fly as they were in old windows Afterdark ? Think!
Reply:A big NO to this one, sadly!!!
Reply:Unfortunately there was never any martial ability to jump and leap to those heights .

There is some fact in that the masters did practice jumping and leaping . These were done both to avoid and to deliver attacks . Many of them probably had an amazing vertical leap , similar to that of a high jumper or NBA player . When you consider that an average vertical leap is somewhere between 8 inches and 15 inches , anything higher may start a legend .
Reply:fly plane ?yes?
Reply:there's no legend that says they can fly, that's just media creativity.and thats a fact.
Reply:as a martial artist myself I can tell that there's no such thing as "human flying" however there's this skill that can be learned called Gin Kang which gives one who masters it the capability to be able to "move lightly" (e.g jump higher)
Reply:I watched part of a show about martial arts and movies a few months ago and here is what I remember. The heroes and villains in the myths and legends were larger than life, which is what made them more spectacular than regular people. Because of this they had the power to fly and other super human abilities. The movies you see to day are a reflection of the that style. You see the heroes doing impossible things (flying, kicking 7 people before touching the ground, etc.) and the villains doing the same. The heroes and the villains need the same abilities to keep the movie interesting. I think the movie industry has really over done it. This takes away from the martial artist's true ability or hides the flaws. One of the two. A LITTLE too much "wire fu".

I don't recall anything about any masters being able to do that. It's only about giving people in the distant past something magical and superhuman to believe in.
Reply:No, just some people are good jumpers. In movies, they use wires %26amp; other special effects.
Reply:My 12 year old brother gained the ability to fly (its only for a foot or two and only a inch or so high).
Reply:Not necessarily fly but jump really high, and crouching tiger was just a really good MOVIE.
Reply:I was able too fly up %26amp; backward only one time when I was kicked in the McNuggets, Oooo Weee Oooo Weee.
Reply:Well no you cant fly but you can jump really high. One of my martial arts teacher can jump kick up to 5 feet in the air. And i seen him do it no wires or anything.

Ballet vs Martial Arts movies?

Am I the only one that sees that the Martials Arts movie has taken on a new life. What started in the 70's to be a cheap action genre has become an artistic realm rivaling ballet, in it's visual appeal. The four latest/greatest films being, Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon, Hero, House of Flying Daggers and even Kung Fu Hustle (believe it or not, it was my wife's favorite movie last year) have become prime examples of a new art form.

I've certainly seen my share of the older minimum plot/maximum action movies, but I find that the newer movies are orchestrated, choreographed and cinematographed (I don't think that is a real word but I hope you know what I mean)so well that their appeal has crossed the gender boundary

Ballet vs Martial Arts movies?
Nobody has done it right since Bruce Lee, who put his teachings into his movies and choreography.
Reply:Martial Arts movies they always make me laugh...

Martial arts movies I have not seen?

I have seen all the Bruce Lee, and all the Jet Li movies. Yes, all the old and new Jet Li. I've seen a lot of the shaw brothers movies like 36th Chamber, and mystery of chess boxing, etc. I saw both of the Ang Bak movies. I've seen all of the jackie Chan and the Iron Monkey movies also.

So, what movies do you think have first rate action, decent plot, and really talented martial artists that I may not have seen? Production value and good acting are not as important.

Martial arts movies I have not seen?
I classify a first rate king fu film with these criteria. 1. Fight Choreography

2. Plot ( mostly kung fu films are fueled by the theme of revenge so its the creative and unconventional approach to that over played theme which makes it interesting)

3. Star Power

4. Production and costumes (its one of my pet peeves)

So I'd recommend these films

Shaw Brothers

Legendary weapons of China

8 Diagram Pole Fighters

Clan of the white lotus

Heroes of the East

Shaolin Mantis

Chinese Super Ninjas

The Prodigal Son- Samo Hung ,Yuen Biao

Shaolin vs Lama

Ninja in the Dragon's Den

There's a korean film called Fighter in the Wind its very good.

There's more but I think you should check these out if you have not already
Reply:The Proctector
Reply:I know you watched Jet Li movies but have you seen the ones that are actally in chinese? They have subtitles, but look up "once apon a time in china", they're 3 movies in the series. Also, i watched this one movie, it's hard to translate it but i can make out the words red sword.
Reply:Check out The Street Fighter and Return of the Street Fighter starring Sonny Chiba; they're unique in being the ONLY movies to be released with an X rating (back when X was equivalent to the R rating, not porn) and have absolutely no nudity; all violence! Also, it features all karate, no Kung Fu, which cool to see for a change.

Also, some of Jet Li's later movies pay homage to some of the scenes from The Street Fighter, so if you dig Jet Li, you should check them out.
Reply:hoes thugs and skrillah! thats my all time favorite kunf fu flick, return of the deadly blade, and duel to the death is pretty dope.
Reply:i don't think it's EXACTLY what you're looking for....but it's got some pretty cool fight scenes and i think if you like the martial arts-type movies, you'll love 'old boy'.

let me know what you think!!

Do Asians & Asian Americans get irritated by martial arts movies where a white guy kicks the bad Asians' butts

bcuz that's like pretty much every American martial arts movie w/ bad Asians and a white American protagonist.

Do Asians %26amp; Asian Americans get irritated by martial arts movies where a white guy kicks the bad Asians' butts
i'm asian american..it doesn't really bother me....it probably bothers other people and its just a movie anyway...and also its not like white ppl can't be as good as asians at martial arts...they get taught by the best..
Reply:probably so.
Reply:hmm, not really, as long as its a cool american white guy (or gal).. like in kill bill, american ninja, karate kid II, and bloodsport.
Reply:I watch the samurai movies and I like Stephen Chow who makes fun of everyone.
Reply:yes, thanks for the two pts.
Reply:Chuck Norris can whip any ninja.

I'm a big fan of chinese martial arts movies. I enjoyed watching all the run run shaw movies.

Name the top five all time favorite martial arts movies.?

Who are some actors that star in martial arts movies that specialize in Wing Chun?

Hello. I am looking for an actor that uses the kung fu style Wing Chun in his movies. Like.. Jet Li uses wushu, and bruce lee, ofcoarse, uses JKD. I am interested in learning wing chun at the francis fong martial arts academy in GA, and i want to find an actor that uses wind chun in his movies...thanks for your time guys!!!!

Who are some actors that star in martial arts movies that specialize in Wing Chun?
Bruce Lee used a lot of Wing Chun in his movies.
Reply:Bruce Lee did not in fact study JKD in hi movies, it was wing chun all along.. He quoted before that JKD is not a new martial art, it is a concept of wing chun Report It

Reply:I believe the first Martial art that Bruce Lee studied was Wing Chun as it works along several of the chinese Martial arts lines
Reply:sometimes my si-fu posts the info that you are looking for.

visit the following website if you are interested: http://lawingchun.com/
Reply:Why don't you get some good Wing Chun instructional videos instead? I noticed that even though the movies say they perform a certain style, it is not exclusively that certain style.

For example, Jet Li starred in the movie, "Once Upon a Time in China" that was supposed to be a story about Wong Fei Hung, a famous Hung Gar Kung Fu practitioner. But, looking closely at Jet Li's techniques, it's mostly Wushu like you mentioned and not too much Hung Gar. It would be a mistake to use this movie to learn Hung Gar Kung Fu.

Search for some Wing Chun videos on EBay or Amazon.
Reply:Jackie Chan used Wing Chun...a basic Mook Jong (wooden training dummy) form in Rumble in the Bronx.

Bruce Lee used Wing Chun in many of his films, as it was a core system that helped him in designing Jeet Kun Do.

As for Jet Li....I'm not sure....

But look for films like "Son of Wing Chun" it's been used in there.

The sequel to Iron Monkey had Wing Chun in use by it's villian...

that's all I can think of, enjoy!

As Hong Kong was under British rule until 1997, all HK-made films - even these... er... cost-conscious productions - were required to have English subtitles. However, one gets the sense that these translations were not always done with the care and accuracy that these celluloid masterpieces deserved...

A collection of some of the more... interesting subtitles was printed in the book Sex and Zen %26amp; A Bullet in the Head by Stefan Hammond and Mike Wilkins. Part of this collection is reprinted here - without, of course, permission. I throw myself on the mercy of the court.

Does anybody know any good Martial Arts Movies?

Me and my friend are wanting ro watch some good martial arts movies so we can research the fighting styles for our own movie but we don't know which ones to watch. New or Old we don't care we just need to find some awesome fighting. Thanks much.

Does anybody know any good Martial Arts Movies?

iron monkey

fist of legend

gorgeous (the ending fight scene is choreographed extremely well)

bloodsport

House of flying daggers: fearless: Curse of the goldin flower: Hero: the hiddin blade

more fist and feet

the seven samuri: any bruce lee movies:
Reply:Any Bruce Lee, Van Damme, Chuck Norris movie, but if I were really trying to emulate a fighting style I would watch the UFC and study real in use fighting styles.
Reply:Any movie by Sifu Lee. He's the man!!!!!!!
Reply:Drunken MAster 1,2....starring Jackie Chan has quality MA moves used in a comedic kind of a way.

Ong Bak starring Tony ja has cool fight scenes and chasing by foot scenes.

Bruce Lee movies for some serious intense scenes.
Reply:If you need a few good laughs, see if you can find "The Crippled Masters" or "Revenge of the Master." Both are poorly made and the thin plots will keep you watching them over and over again.
Reply:Anything with Bruce Lee in it will be great.

Jet Li has some pretty good one's also.

Jackie Chan is just an over paid stunt man. Better off going to the circus.

Steven Seagul has some real good one's also. Oh ya, check out some Chuck Norris movies too.

Can you recommend martial arts movies for a 7 year old?

My son is very seriously into Tae Kwon Do and has been for over a year and a half. He would like to watch movies with martial arts but I do not want him to watch these movies which are often ultra violent. He did enjoy "The Karate Kid" but it's the only one I know (yeah, I know there are a bunch of sequels). Can you recommend anything PG? I'll stretch it to PG-13 if the movie is fabulous and has other redeeming qualities.

Can you recommend martial arts movies for a 7 year old?
Look for Chuck Norris and Jackie Chan.

Chuck Norris is normally pretty squeeky clean with moral tales etc.

Jackie Chan is mostly lots of fun and a little cartoony in style
Reply:3 ninjas
Reply:3 Ninjas, High Noon at Mega Mountain. It's pretty cheesey, but fn for kids.
Reply:Sidekicks with Chuck Norris is pretty kid-friendly as martial arts flicks go, and it's a good movie, period. :-)

It's rated PG. More information is at the IMDB link below.
Reply:Most Jackie Chan movies are fairly tame but full of action and martial arts.
Reply:I used to like the 3 Ninjas movies when I was younger. I actually watched the first one just this past week. A little corny, but quite funny.
