Movie Martial arts vs UFC fighting?

Would Jet Li beat Tito Ortiz?

Would Tony Jaa beat Chuck Liddell?

What are the differences between these guys?

Movie Martial arts vs UFC fighting?
They are all trained in martial arts but the difference is UFC fighters worry less about counters and more about submission holds. Because of that if it's a no holds barred fight, I'd give both Li and Jaa the edge. They have more focussed strikes and if they aren't holding back, their training will surpass the UFC fighters easily.
Reply:tito is a *****

chuck is a man!

Reply:it all depends,

street fight

thumb wrestling

are there weapons (like bottles or boards on the ground)

is it in a cage or ring

is there a ref
Reply:People who train and fight for a paycheck will always have an advantage over someone who acts for a paycheck. No knock on Li or Jaa, I imagine they would do quite well in their respective weight classes if they trained for MMA. They are amazing athletes.

But there is a huge difference between athletes who specialize in Boxing, BJJ, or Muay. The more subtle arts do not compete well against them...which is why you do not see Karate, Aikido, or Tai fighters excel in the ring. (there are philosophical reasons why they would never enter the ring to begin with...) The days are numbered for athletes/fighters who only have one style in an MMA fight.

All that said...You've always got to respect the fighters creeds. First, eveyone has a fighters chance. Second, eveyone has a plan until they get hit.
Reply:They are all excellent martial artists but are at their best under different rules. They are all great fighter at their own right and it is hard to say who is better than the other. It all comes to the rules of the fight.

Jet Li is trained in both traditional Chinese martial arts (including weapons) and Wushu. Traditional Chinese arts work best under "No rule" condition since many of its techniques involve attacking human body's critical areas. These techniques are not fit for sports type martial art competition like UFC, K-1, etc but looks really good in movies.

Tony Jaa is a Thai boxing and a gymnastic experts. Thai boxing is probably one of the most powerful striking art in the ring but it is not famous at grappling techniques. I think Tony would do pretty well in boxing %26amp; kick boxing competition but not MMA style competition which grappling technique is also important.

UFC is the currently most hype martial arts sport. It requires both striking and grappling skills. Good physical endurance is very important since no critical area strike is allowed so the fight often give advantage to the better condition fighter.
Reply:there is a difference between a martial artist and a fighter.

Li and Jaa are martial artists and Chuck and Tito are Fighters.

fighters have the instinct to fight and win, so I gotta give both to Chuck and Tito.
Reply:theyre actors, not fighters...they would get killed by UFC fighters.
Reply:this is equivalent to asking if slyvester stallone could beat lennox lewis in a boxing match. OF COURSE NOT. one is an actor who pretends to fight in front of a camera, does completely unrealistic things and in reality barely even touches the other people. the other is a fighter who actually fights doesn't do impossible/stupid stuff and actually hits people. its no contest
