Every movie character now knows martial arts moves. How true to life is this?

Hollywood, Hollywood, Hollywood! tsk tsk tsk

Every movie character now knows martial arts moves. How true to life is this?
I was thinking the same thing about the BLADE movies. How do all vampires know karate?
Reply:This is true but think about it, ever seen a real fight? its sad, imagine seeing the Hero of the movie against the badguy, the go to fight, and the badguy one punches the goodguy and he is out cold. you spend $10 to watch a 2 hour movie that ends in a B**ch fight or no fight at all, its all about dramatics.

I dont go to movies to see true to life, thats what discovery channel is for
Reply:I don't think "EVERY" movie character knows martial arts moves -- I wouldn't consider the fighting style that Spider-Man uses to be any form of recognized martial art... nor does John McClain in the Die Hard movies possess any real "training"

But then again, maybe you're using a very broad generalized definition of "martial arts moves" ... because even american boxing is a martial-art - so every jab, hook, or crossing punch is technically a martial arts move. As is wrestling... sword-fighting... fencing... etc., etc., etc.

If characters are going to "fighting" %26amp; the movie is trying to have "spectacular" fight sequences -- it would be pretty sad to see those sequences consisted of nothing more than two guys hiding behind rocks.

And I think people have seen enough fighting styles over their life that they can emulate SOME of those moves they've seen over the years. Or they've done some of those "martial arts" - so why wouldn't people do those in a real life fight?
Reply:I don't know about where some people live, but where I live a lot of kids are taking martial arts when they were younger, and now that alot of them are in High school and gangs I see them fight that way all the time.
